Setting the Atmosphere with Lighting

Lighting is crucial to setting the atmosphere of your home and can be a powerful interior design tool. Here’s how you can enhance your home with the touch of a button:

Layer the lighting: Build a palette of effects from different sources inside the same room. As a general rule, placing a light source on the roof should be avoided as it spreads a blanket of light evenly and takes away from any texture that you may be able to create otherwise.

Make a spa out of your bathroom:Turn your bathroom into a calm escape with lighting that gives it a spa-like quality. Aid relaxation by adding low-level lighting.

Accentuate details:Lighting the architectural details of a room is where you set the mood. Light up shelving with either back or front lighting, and add up-lights to door frames or down-lights to niches.

Dim is always better: Always give yourself the option to dim your lighting. You will be amazed at how much of a difference a dim light can do to transform the atmosphere in a room.
